Cathedral of San Sebastian

The Cathedral of São Sebastião was designed by the architect Edgar de Oliveira da Fonseca inspired by the naves of the Apollo Project as a symbol of the future; Who says it was inspired by the Mayan pyramids.

 

The main door is made up of bronze reliefs and has faith as its theme. 


It is also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, as it is  a Catholic cathedral located in the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, of incomparable beauty, a charming place.

Inaugurated in 1979, replacing, as the city's cathedral, the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo.

 

It has a modern style, has a conical shape, 106 meters in diameter, 75 meters in external height, 64 meters in internal height and capacity for 20,000 people standing.

At night, the cathedral  is illuminated in alternating colors, giving it that special touch.

Very well designed and with great capacity to house visitors.
